Pool Heating in Altamonte Springs
Half of the homes in Altamonte Springs were built by the early 1980s, so many pools here have already been through a heater or two. When yours needs replacing, the new unit has to suit both your pool and the pad it sits on, and bigger isn’t always better.
We size every replacement to the pool, and our pool heater calculator gives you a starting point before we visit.

Before You Call, Try This
Check these common issues first, before you call. You might save yourself some time.

- Thermostat Setting: Set at least 3-5°F higher than current pool temp
→ Pool at 78°F, thermostat at 75°F = won't run - Circuit Breaker: Check your electrical panel
→ Tripped breakers cause 40% of "won't turn on" calls - Water Flow: Clean your pool filter
→ Dirty filters restrict flow and trigger safety shutdowns - Air Temperature: Must be above 50°F to work efficiently
→ For defrost mode, below 50°F is normal - Valves & Plumbing: All water valves between your pool and heater should be fully open
→ Check for any closed bypass valves
Still stuck after these checks? Our pool heater troubleshooting guide breaks it down by brand, error code, and symptom.

Denise did a fantastic job helping isolate and identify an electrical issue. She worked directly with me throughout the troubleshooting process, demonstrating professionalism, patience, and a collaborative attitude as we checked various voltages. She provided logical explanations for the readings and offered a well-reasoned theory about the potential cause of the issue. Subsequent investigation confirmed that her speculations were correct. I was very impressed with her technical knowledge, methodical approach, and ability to work through the problem.
Google Review 5/5 Stars — Outstanding Service and Expert Guidance I cannot say enough good things about Medallion Energy. When I ran into an issue with my pool heat pump's control board, the owner, Jim Diroff, reached out to me personally to help work through it. Jim was extremely professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He walked me step-by-step through troubleshooting the board, which helped us reach a clear conclusion: after 20+ years of faithful service, it was finally time to replace my old pool heater. Because of Jim's exceptional customer service, I am purchasing my new pool heater directly from Medallion Energy and having it shipped to Maryland. If you want honest advice, deep expertise, and a company that truly values its customers, look no further. Highly recommended!
I want to thank Medallion Energy for helping me getting my heat pump working again. The display said "FLO" despite adequate water moving through the system and I was sure that it was the water pressure control switch that needed replacement. After reaching out to them via email they called me back and asked me what was going on. After explaining the issue they agreed that it was most likely the switch and shipped me a new one. It even came with directions on how to replace it. Once replaced I turned the heater on and it is working again. That saved me a huge bill to replace the heater. Thanks Medallion Energy for your help.
AquaComfort stands behind their products and delivers exceptional service. My husband and I could not be more pleased with this company. The service team went above and beyond to fix our concerns even when the warranty was expired.

I had the temperature sensor on my electric heater fail and I worked with tech support (Nikki) who did an excellent job assisting me in clearing a code to get the heater running despite the failing sensor and said she would ship out a new temp sensor with complete instructions to accomplish the repair (if I felt comfortable doing it) or send a repair technician. I opted to do the repair myself. Took less than an hour and the directions were spot on and easy to follow. My heater is back working and the new sensor performing like new. My heater was still under warranty so no cost to me.Posted on Google![]()

REPAIR
Makes Sense When
- Your heater is under 8 years old (pool heat pump)

- You've maintained it regularly
- Major components are still healthy (compressor, heat exchanger)
REPLACEMENT
Makes Sense When
- Your heater is 10-12+ years old
- Facing a $1,500+ repair (compressor, heat exchanger)
- 2nd or 3rd repair in 2 years
- Unit is undersized for your pool
- Keeping heating costs low matters (newer models use 30-40% less electricity)

FAQs
What size pool heater does my pool need?
It depends on your pool’s surface area, how warm you like the water and whether the pool is screened. Our pool heater calculator gives a quick estimate, and we confirm the size before we quote.
Do you repair heaters on condo and community pools in Altamonte Springs?
Yes. We repair pool heat pumps on both residential and commercial pools, including condo and HOA pools across Altamonte Springs.
Is it worth fixing a pool heater?
It depends on age and repair cost. If repair costs less than 40% of replacement and your heater is under 8 years old, repair makes sense. If you’re facing a $1,500+ repair on a 10+ year-old unit, replacement often wins financially.
What causes a pool heater to fail?
The most common causes are restricted water flow (dirty filters, closed valves), electrical component failures (capacitors, control boards), refrigerant issues in heat pumps, and igniter or heat exchanger problems in gas heaters. Florida’s year-round pool season means heaters work harder here than in most climates, which accelerates wear on key components.
What is the average cost to repair a pool heater?
Most pool heater repairs fall between $200 and $800. Simple fixes like capacitors or sensors run $200–$400. Mid-range repairs (fan motors, control boards) run $300–$800. Major repairs like compressor replacement or heat exchanger work run $1,200–$2,500. We always provide a clear estimate before starting any work. See typical costs by repair on our pool heater repair page.
How much is a service call for pool heater repair?
Pool heater service calls or diagnostic visits typically run $100–$250 in Florida.
How long does a pool heater last?
Heat pumps typically last 10–15 years in Florida. Gas heaters last 5–10 years. Solar heaters can last 10–20 years. Florida’s year-round pool season means heaters work harder than in seasonal climates, which affects lifespan. Regular maintenance extends life significantly.
What's the most common problem with pool heat pumps?
Low water flow is the #1 cause of heat pump failures — usually from dirty filters, closed valves, or clogged pump baskets. After that, the most common issues are capacitor failures, thermostat problems, and low refrigerant. Check our diagnostic checklist above before calling.
Why is my pool heat pump running but not heating?
Common causes include insufficient water flow (40% of cases), low ambient air temperature – below 50°F, refrigerant issues, or thermostat miscalibration. Check your filter, ensure valves are open, and verify your thermostat is set above current pool temperature. Our diagnostic checklist above can help you identify the issue.
Why is my pool heater not working?
Start with water flow — a dirty filter, closed valve, or clogged pump basket causes more no-heat calls than anything else. Then check for a tripped breaker and make sure the thermostat is set above your current pool temperature.
If none of that fixes it, work through our pool heater troubleshooting guide — or call us for a free phone diagnosis before you book a repair.
Do you provide a warranty on pool heater repairs?
Yes, we provide a 90-day workmanship warranty, so if the same issue returns, we come back to fix it. Parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty, typically 1–2 years. If something fails within the warranty period, we make it right.
Can I DIY my pool heater repair?
Simple checks like cleaning filters, checking valves, resetting breakers, adjusting thermostat settings — are safe to do yourself. However, refrigerant-related repairs on heat pumps require EPA 608 certification by law. Electrical and compressor work is best handled by a licensed professional for safety, warranty protection, and code compliance.
What's the difference between a pool heater and a pool heat pump?
A heat pump IS a type of pool heater, and it’s the most common type in Florida. Heat pumps use electricity to extract heat from the air and transfer it to pool water (very energy efficient). Gas heaters burn fuel to heat water directly (heats quickly but costs 3-5x more to operate). When Florida pool owners say ‘pool heater,’ they usually mean a pool heat pump.
How often should a pool heater be serviced?
We recommend professional maintenance and inspection once a year — ideally before your heavy-use season. Regular maintenance includes checking refrigerant levels, cleaning coils, inspecting electrical connections, and verifying water flow. Annual service catches small issues before they become expensive repairs and extends the life of your unit significantly.
