1. Size

2. Efficiency (COP)
COP (Coefficient of Performance) tells you how much heat a unit puts out for each unit of electricity it uses. Higher is better. Look for 6 or above.
3. Heating and Cooling

4. Parts and service

How to Size a Pool Heat Pump
- Choose your target pool temperature.
- Find the average temperature of the coldest month where you live.
- Subtract the cold-month average from your target. This is your temperature increase.
- Measure your pool’s surface area (length × width).
- Multiply: surface area × temperature increase × 12 = BTUs needed.

How Pool Heat Pumps Work
A fan pulls outside air across a coil filled with refrigerant, which absorbs the air’s heat. A compressor pressurizes the refrigerant to make it hotter, and a heat exchanger passes that heat into your pool water.
